Barn Manager and Assistant: Jim Barrentine
Jim began riding horses like most people, doing trail rides on rented horses. In 2007, Jim began taking formal riding lessons. Learning basic classical horsemanship, ranch management, starting the untrained horse, and riding both English and Western using the principles of classical training. Jim has become a well rounded rider and continues to train.
Jim started his first horse in 2008, Copper, a Quarter Horse/Paint foaled in 2005 (shown in the photo with Jim).
Jim has taken Copper from an unstarted two year old to a reliable mount whether in the arena, out on trails, or camping in the mountains.
Jim started his equine education by attending John Lyon's courses with local trainer, Debbie Bibb. He now works with Lori and Madeline Wise learning the concepts and techniques of Classical Equitation and Horsemanship which can be applied to all disciplines and to both English and Western riders.
Jim uses natural methods based on praise and partnership. Jim believes that you need to become a friend to your horse and understand his needs in-order to build trust. Once you accomplish that, you develop a life long friendship and your horse will want to please you.
Jim is an integral part of this ranch. He makes sure that everything from feeding to lessons stays on schedule and on track. He helps make sure our newcomers learn safe horse handling skills, grooming, and tacking up. Jim manages the barn on lesson days helping students retrieve their horses from the pasture and ensures that horses are groomed, tacked up, and that students are ready to ride on time for their lessons. Jim assists with starting untrained horses, hauls horses/hay/feed, and ensures that things run smoothly at all times.
